Jennifer Romero
Vice President

I previously served as the Professional Development Chair of the Rotaract Club, and am excited to serve as Vice President! I relocated to Washington DC in May of 2023 in pursuit of a new career opportunity. I am currently an Event Coordinator for Texas A&M DC, and I graduated from Texas State University in 2021. I'm currently pursuing a Master's at George Washington University.
Beyond my professional career, I am an avid music lover. I love to attend festivals, concerts, and collect vinyls/CDs/cassettes. I also have two cats, Beani and Maui, who traveled with me from Texas. They were both rescued from my previous job at a public library. In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer, trying new foods, going to the movies and hanging out with my friends.

Grad school brought me to the DMV area about three years ago, which I now consider to be my second home. I am currently working towards my PhD in Computer Science and work as a graduate research assistant at George Mason University. My current research is centered around understanding and building reliable AI-assisted tools for software developers.
I joined the Rotaract club about a year and a half ago and have been more actively involved over the past year particularly with our service and social events. The most rewarding aspect of my membership has been the opportunity to give back to our local community and connecting with such an energetic group of young professionals who share the same commitment towards “service above self”. I love the community that Rotary helps foster and share the same values that it stands for.
When I’m not working on my research, I like to explore new places, restaurants, experiment with recipes, binge-watch sitcoms and detective mysteries. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner whose goal is to be the jack of all trades and a master of some; my favorite way to do that is by connecting with the people around me.

Amini Bonane
Community Service Director
communityservice@rotaractdc.org
Amini Bonane is a Congolese American social entrepreneur, community organizer, and advocate for women & girls.
She created Brains Then Beauty ™ in 2018; after witnessing the lack of accessible spaces, dedicated to the academic, professional, and personal development of marginalized youth, as they transition to and from college. She also launched a jewelry line called Nchi J. Co, that donates its profits to The Malaika School.
As a community organizer and advocate, Amini has successfully lobbied for education, children, and women’s rights. During her reign as the 2018 Miss RD Congo USA 1RU, Amini proposed legislation, for George Mason to become the 1st Conflict Free Campus in Virginia. It was unanimously passed, after meetings and support from: U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, and his wife Interim President & Former 1st Lady Anne Holton. As Miss Black DC 2020, Amini took a stand against the media’s bias in its coverage of missing women of color. Her platform, called Find My Sister, became a national campaign to end the violence black women & girls face at home, at work, in school, online, and at leisure. Amini’s fear of public speaking came to an end, when she was given opportunities to spread awareness across the DMV and internationally.
As a delegate for Miss Africa USA, Amini created a petition to World Bank to restore funding to areas desperately in need of care. Forbes Africa invited Amini to attend the 2023 Leading Women Summit in South Africa, and she was also approved by the UN Secretariat, to share her platform, “From Reactive To Proactive”, at the international United Nations RP23 Conference.
DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser has personally commended Amini for her work.
Amini is also the recipient of: the 2018 Seeds of Change Community Engagement Medallion, the 2018 Distinguished Quill Award for Community Engagement, the 2019 MLK Resounding Voice Award, the 2020 Freedom Fighters Fund, the 2021 Miss Black USA Community Activist Award, the 2021 Karen Arrington Trailblazer Award, the 2022 Northern Virginia 40 Under 40 Honoree List, the 2022 Fairfax County Social Justice Service Award, the 2023 President’s Volunteer Service Award, and the 2023 Pride Network Transformational Leadership Grant.
With higher purpose dictating all aspects of her life, Amini chose a professional career democratizing access to the technology industry. An avid writer since grade 3, she enjoys contributing to her local newspaper, and producing her own radio show. Amini serves as an ambassador for Girls On The Run, and is a proud member of: the Junior League, African Women Council, and the US Section of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

From Reston to Blacksburg, Richmond to DC, I have lived my whole life in the DMV. Whether I am hosting parties with my roommates on H Street, going out to dinner with my Grandmother in Ashburn or playing golf with my brothers in Alexandria, I love my life here and plan to continue investing in the area.
When I am not with family and friends, I enjoy running, working on my golf game and engaging with the DC community through mentoring students at Cornerstone School or being a delivery driver for the DC Food Justice Initative.
As a Director of Operations for a hospital system, I focus my work life on confronting challenges and pursuing opportunities to better meet the needs of patients and their families during some of the toughest times of their lives.

I began my Rotaract journey in 2016 in Hyderabad, India. Where I served as the Community Service Director during my first year. During this time, I initiated "Project Lunch Box," a flagship project focused on distributing home-cooked meals to those in need. This experience ignited my passion for service and reinforced the values of community, compassion, and leadership that Rotaract embodies.
In 2022, I moved to the United States to pursue my Master's in Computer Science from the University of Central Missouri. After completing my degree, I relocated to Washington DC and joined the Rotaract Club here about 1.5 years ago. I have been actively involved in various initiatives, Volunteering and giving back to the community are very dear to my heart.
I am an avid solo traveler. Traveling alone has allowed me to meet incredible people and make long-lasting friends, many of whom I met through Rotaract. These experiences have enriched my life and broadened my perspective, making me a more empathetic and open-minded individual.
Professionally, I am a dedicated software developer with a strong passion for technology and innovation. Rotaract has provided me with a platform to serve while also helping me grow personally and professionally. The friendships and connections I've made along the way are invaluable, and I look forward to continuing this journey of service and leadership.
